ALLERSEELEN/O PARADIS 7" FUNKE

ALLERSEELEN/O PARADIS 7" FUNKE/EL ASTRO REY

April MMIII

Another gem in the series of Allerseelen singles. This time in collaboration with the Catalan project O Paradis, whose member Demian was also involved on the 'Canco de Somni' single before. 'Funke' is again a fine example of the contemporary Allerseelen style. A warm atmosphere, a melody that gets you in its spell, a repetitive but effective rhythm, poetic lyrics, nice strings. On the other side we find O Paradis, with a succeeded combination of moody Spanish folklore and atmospheric trip-hop elements. The song has nice vocals and an accessible melody. Beautiful, melancholic and mystical. This single certainly evokes some sparks! http://www.funprox.com/

Mysticism, poetry, reality... is it possible to find that much in so little space? The answer is yes; after constantly having been listening to this single that contains a track per side of the veterans Austrian Allerseelen and Catalan O Paradis. These two tracks create a special fascination. Both compositions, mainly lyrically, go hand in hand and develop a theme, verses that find common land between two sides of Europe and The Sun, as the eternal witness. The interaction between both musical entities started when Demian collaborated with Gerhard on the 7" “Canço de Somni/Marqués de Púbol”. Moreover, I guess the Austrian traveller, musician and researcher felt in some way fascinated by some parts of our country and O Paradis. If the name O Paradis is new for you, check out his albums “Ensueños” and “Reinos”. “Funke” (“Spark”) presents Allerseelen in its traditional cyclical songs, this time a dynamic pulse contrasting with his recent offerings on latest albums where slow tempo ballads predominate. Strong bass and melodic brilliancy helps the reciting to obtain an ideal place. While the rhythm supplies hypnotic dynamism, the melodic environment recreates enigmatical concentration: the “Wintersonnenwende”, warmer by sparks despite the sun absence, and as a new embark on a new year. That’s a good complement for “El Astro Rey”. O Paradis presents one of his best songs, pure poetry that chains that same mysticism with a more personal world and interpretation. The lack of light, i.e. knowledge, or excessive blindness is metaphorically related here: the same sparks that illuminate life, consume it. Demian’s warm voice, each time more personal and attractive, is backed by easy efficient melodies and soft guitar and bass. Slow rhythmic cadence is precise and even hides a martial inclination, a gentle ballad full of serenity and beauty. “En la noche más larga pregunto al cielo”, “during the longest night I ask heaven”, obviously, alludes to Winter Solstice and here is the clear connection with the opposite side, from where all revolves and towards all returns. I need more of this, together or sharing a work the collaboration between these two musical projects can be highly fruitful. This single obliges for wanting more. Moreover, I think both music entities are in the best moment of their career. I am sure we will witness more of this in the near future. http://www.arrakis.es/

Zostaly tu zatrudnione hipnotyczne rytmy, powtarzajace sie motywy zwiazane z sentyzatorem i mocnym basem. Mozna powiedziec iz caly utwór jest cykliczny, uparcie sie powtarzajacy i zapetlajacy. Spokojny charakter, zaklocany poprzez industrialno-popowy rytm to juz standard do którego Allerseelen nas przyzwyczail chociazby na wspanialym materiale "Strib Und Werde".

(Black 32/2003)

The latest item from the House of Aorta is this 45, which, as one has come to expect from this label, arrives in brilliant sleeve designed by Gerhard in co-operation with Salt. Allerseelen kick off the proceedings with Funke. After a matter of seconds it becomes clear that this track must surely count as one of the group's best ever works. Serpentine violins introduce the piece, which is driven forwards by a relentless drum pattern. Electronic stabs drenched in delay resound throughout the bass-laden fabric of the song, creating a collision between classical and industrial avant-garde. Haunting and moving in equal measures, chock-full of engaging imagery and wordplay, this poetic vignette tops off the piece perfectly. The end result is a deeply atmospheric gem which testifies to the evocative uniqueness of the soundscapes pioneered by Allerseelen. The Catalan formation O Paradis contribute a laid-back marriage of diverse percussion, guitar and bass. The depth and pulchritude of the music is quite simply a wonder to behold. Much time and effort has evidently been expended on the textured and full-bodied arrangements, but the whole retains an organic quality that seems increasingly rare in the milieu afforded by today's technology, the over-reliance upon which frequently leaves compositions sounding forced and false. Starting with the resonance of a soft electric guitar, reverberating claves and tambourines, the rhythm is picked up by a crisp snare drum, which is countered by the dark tones of a gran cassa. This then builds to a lilting refrain that is augmented by a sparkling organ passage. The entirety achieves perfection through Demian's multi-layered singing. Imploring, soft and rich, his Catalan words mark the high point of an already outstanding track. O Paradis deserve to reach a much wider audience. In conclusion, this 7" showcases the talents of two immensely creative and original artists, who should not be passed over. Music as sustenance for the soul. (Judas Kiss)

'Funke / El Astro Rey" is a 7" split between Allerseelen and the highly promising Catalan formation O Paradis. Gerhard and Demian have already collaborated with Rosa Solé from Circe on the 'Canco de somni/Marques de Pubol' 7". The Sun is the central entity of this new 7" that opens with 'Funke', the Allerseelen song. The song is based on electronic sounds/loops, industrial elements and a lively and repetitive rhythm on which Gerhard lends his voice, inspired by the Sun, the Fire and the sparks ('Funke'). The sparks being one of its components... An enlightening song that one can not help playing again and again.. The O Paradis contribution 'El Astro Rey' explores another facet of this star and creates a darker mood... Another gem! The presence of all these elements makes O Paradis one of the very few exciting project of the moment: Demian's incomparable voice singing in Spanish, the variety of sonorities ranging from trip hop to folk, the melancholic and floating atmosphere and the 'little something' that makes a song an unforgettable one..Truly, one of the most beautiful O Paradis songs! A rare alchemy on a split. A record for music lovers.. http://www.heimdallr.ch/

Allerseelen and O Paradis join in this split in order to diffuse still ancestral folk avant-garde liturgies, with the usual quality and their bright simplicity. The Austrian side of "Funke" includes one sprightly composition, linear rhythms and poly-sensorial tensions; burning instincts transported by solemn arches and seeded by strict organs. Poetic sparks by arcane fragrances, glares of rebirths and exile turnings relieved by far-seeing Gerhard's lyrics. Romantic raptures able to anticipate the glimpse of the spirit. The Spanish side introduces "El Rey Star", an acoustic parable composed by Demian. A dim and passionate travel, accompanied by acoustic guitar, minimal rhythms and melancholic atmospheres. Oneiric reductions and rises between hectic visions and magical openings, intense premonitory reminiscences. Symbols of origins lay down carefully on luminous instruments capacities dipped in breezes of absynthe. Two contemporary guardians of the Celestial Balance. www.twilight-zone.it

This split 7" of the Austrian group Allerseelen and the Catalan group O Paradis was released in April MMIII. The song Funke by Allerseelen is quite hard and almost industrial yet containing a variety of string arrangements - apocalyptic pop. The song El astro rey of O Paradis is very beautiful, similar to the folklore magico on many releases by this unique project from Catalonia, the country of Salvador Dali, Antoni Gaudi, Ramon Llull.. O Paradis released two cds, Ensuenos and Reinos, on their label El Circulo Records, both are available from Aorta too. If you like the music of groups like Allerseelen, Coil, Novy Svet, Psychic TV, Virgin Prunes, you will be in love with the beautiful and mystical songs of group O Paradis. Demian of O Paradis and the Catalan singer Rosa Solé collaborated with Allerseelen already on the 7" Canco de somni/Marques de Pubol. (..)

(Rockerilla)

This split release, consisting of a track each from Allerseelen and O Paradis, is part of Aorta's vinyl series, which has seen a 7" released every year since 2000; this time focusing on the theme of the sun. The Allerseelen contribution, 'Funke' - a combination of melancholy orchestral samples, set against a relentless, somewhat off-kilter, drum kick. 'El Astro Rey' from O Paradis, is taken from their full length album, "Serpiente de Luna, Serpiente de Sol", also on Aorta. It is a memorable, vocally-prominent piece that shares a similar rhythm to the Allerseelen contribution, but with a Catalonian folk atmosphere that contrasts with the formers orchestral one. An interesting glimpse at the oeuvre of these two acts. http://www.auralpressure.com/

there is beauty in every incident of life; the true and the false, the wise and the foolish, are all one in the eye that beholds all without passion or prejudice: and the secret appears to lie not in the retirement from the world, but in keeping a part of oneself vestal, sacred, intact, aloof from that which acts and suffers.

ALLERSEELEN 7" KNISTERN

ALLERSEELEN 7" KNISTERN/LÖWIN

BLACK VINYL - 45 RPM

Allerseelen is slowly building up a nice series of 7" singles. They are always packaged and designed with care, and the songs on them often belong to Kadmon's strongest material. Allerseelen seems to be moving further and further from the noisy industrial sound from their early days. On the cover we see a nice late 19th century Symbolist painting: the religious but at the same time sensual "Engel mit Heiligenschein" by Louis Welden Hawkins. The sleeve further offers the lyrics of the two songs, the mysterious 'Knistern' and the passionate 'Löwin', as well as a fragment from Hesse's classic "Steppenwolf". The music on the single sounds surprisingly warm, without losing its melancholic appeal. The whispering voice and the repetive, infectious melodies get me hooked. The rhythms are certainly danceable, and together with the mysterious atmosphere they create a sensual feeling. This is especially the case on 'Knistern'; a song which keeps you moving into the night, while you hear the 'knistering' sounds of the vinyl and of a burning fire. 'Löwin' sounds more mediterranean and is pleasantly cheerful. Style: mediterranean industrial dance. http://www.funprox.com/

Adorned with a stunning symbolist painting by Louis Welden Hawkins, the cover of this single from Allerseelen manages to impart a simultaneously sacral and erotic aura. Knistern: Beginning with the distant strains of strings and what sound like reversed pipes, the piece develops into a heartfelt, hypnotic melange of swirling sounds which envelope the listener. One becomes entranced by the spiralling, eastern-tinged melodies that emanate from the speakers. Gerhard's voice provides a surprisingly successful counterpoint to the relaxed tempo of the beat which kicks this song along. His questioning, insistent whispers imbue the piece with a sense of urgency and longing which is echoed in the dulcet bass that undulates beneath them. Löwin: The addition of some slightly harsher electronics and piano combined with beseeching and breathless vocals benefits the track immensely, as do Gerhard's imploring lyrics. This release proves that there is a great deal of life left in Allerseelen. It suggests that the journey has really only just begun. Gerhard forges forwards, refining and expanding his musical vocabulary. His brainchild remains one of the most compelling projects active today, and as such Allerseelen bear investigation by all who have yet to discover them. (Judas Kiss)

The more recent work by Allerseelen is again combining music with literature and painting. The lyrics to both songs and a text by Hermann Hesse occupy the back cover, while the shows the painting "Engel mit Heiligenschein" by the English Louis Welden Hawkins. The music of Allerseelen is full of symbols. "Knistern" is an hypnotic titled revealed through constant percussion and repetitive enchanting melody. All is completed by pulsating bass and the reciting or whispering of the composer. This brings also new and eternal inspirations and sensations, portrayed by the ever changing essence of every song. The nearly erotic aspect of the melody within "Knistern" is accompanied also by a permanent piano. "Löwin" offers again warm atmospheres where piano and samplings have an important role when giving a place for the main voice to reveal lyrics of special love. Two new good songs. As all Allerseelen material and contributions, this "Knistern/Löwin" single is very recommended and essential to understand the eternal journey of the Austrian artist.
http://www.arrakis.es/

Allerseelen's latest 7" masterpiece-in-miniature features two new songs with a decidedly 'night music' quality, this time recorded solely by Gerhard in contrast to recent collaborations. 'Knistern' basically features whispered spoken word, a skiffly beat and quiet riffs superimposed over a sad, romantic tune. Its repetitive quality is hypnotic and encapsulates that Allerseelen hallmark of creating a dynamic tension between a traditional European melody and a more modern, upbeat rhythm. 'Löwin' is comparable in style but more syncopated, more David-Lynch-ish, and sensuously atmospheric. The cover features the religious but also gently erotic painting, The Haloes (1894), by the Symbolist painter, Louis Welden Hawkins (1849-1910), a French citizen born in Germany of English parents who is often compared to the Pre-Raphaelites. The obverse bears the German lyrics and a quotation from Hermann Hesse's famous Outsider novel, Steppenwolf. www.fluxeuropa.com

'Knistern/Löwin' is the latest 7-inch single from Allerseelen. I am pleased to report that this single of melodic experimental pop is a commendable encapsulation of Gerhard's vision entwining philosophy with modern electronics. It maintains the percussion driven dynamism associated with Allerseelen. Both tracks feature memorable melodies and the softly spoken voice of Gerhard reciting the lyrics. A recurrent eastern motif features on Knistern propelled by electronic rhythms while 'Löwin' opts for acoustic guitars and piano. There's a sombre and melancholic air hanging over this release, and a sense of timeless beauty. On the evidence of these two tracks Gerhard is pursuing a singular approach conceptually and musically. A Hermann Hesse quotation, and a sensual and symbolic painting from Louis Welden Hawkins completes this immaculate package. www.compulsiononline.com

(Blow Up 57/2003)

This Allerseelen 7" Knistern/Löwin contains two new songs by Allerseelen. For the cover of this 7" a very beautiful, erotic painting of the English symbolist Louis Welden Hawkins was chosen. In the track Knistern, a beautiful nocturnal rhythm and a melancholic melody are melting into one another with the noises of fire, of vinyl. A song created for the forthcoming winters - and perfect for these winters is also the mediterranean atmosphere on the second song Löwin with its piano particles, its tango splinters and industrial elements. (..)

Two new songs on vinyl for Allerseelen that continues his jouney toward the within of neoclassical experimentations and melancholic vanguard ballads. Gerhard lets us enjoy again timeless images, nineteenth-century elegiac crystals, burning atmospheres under wrought-iron arches of fascination and abandon. Precious artistic, literary and historical callbacks are always present; in fact they exalt once again the quality of the artist. "Knistern" slides on fluctuating rhythms and a line of wrapping bottom, a hypnotic and bewitching rêverie between oblivious whispers and crepuscular symphonies. Instead "Löwin" is more obsessive and passionate, scratched from distorted effects, intoxicated by a decadent piano, pushed out by lyrics of fire. Mystical ardour and worldly glows: nectar of Immortal Dawn... www.twilight-zone.it

(Carl)

ALLERSEELEN 7" NORNAR NAGLI

ALLERSEELEN 7" NORNAR NAGLI/PANZERGARTEN

GREY VINYL - 45 RPM

Wunderbar! (Black)

A splendid 7". Nornar Nagli is a fusion of the atavistic and the technocratic. Throbbing electronics and bass sway beneath tribal drums. A wood-flute performs a lilting phrase. This is the sound of ancestral Europa calling from beyond time, from primeval swamps to deepest space and into the souls of her progeny. The flip-side delivers Panzergarten. This tune keeps an ancient sounding rhythm, with the addition of an unforgettable bass-line and layered synths. Whistling winds bring to mind a freezing wasteland. Kadmon´s poetic lyrics offer further cerebral sustencance. Images of snow are contrasted with an iron-grey hardness. Ferrous-coloured vinyl. An icy breeze blows through a glistening landscape dotted with the wrecked shells of steel hulks. Kadmon´s softly spoken words "weiss der Schnee" contrast well with his distorted voice in the chorus. An ideal way to bring this prime cut of vinyl to its terminus. (Judas Kiss 6)

ALLERSEELEN 7" CANCO DE SOMNI

ALLERSEELEN 7" CANCO DE SOMNI/MARQUES DE PUBOL

"Cançó de Somni /Marqués de Púbol" was released before the album "Abenteuerliches Herz", a disc that has been also reviewed for this new site update. The two songs are a close collaboration between Allerseelen and two projects from Catalonia: Rosa Sole's Circe and Demian's Darkshineswar, better known by his main project Ô Paradis. The single is partly dedicated to the Spanish Surrealistic painter Salvador Dalí (El Marqués de Púbol) and to his muse Amanda Lear. This taste of Spain (to Calalonia to be precise), and of the painter art is greatly appreciated in this some kind of homage, thanks to the brilliant intervention of both referred musicians that helped Gerhard to obtain one of the best recordings in the trajectory of Allerseelen. The influence of the mentioned artists has helped these musicians to create a surrealistic work, at the same time full of sensuality and loveliness. The more recent style practised by Allerseelen during the latest albums is reflected here again. That dark and poetic pop full of eclecticism, and even magic, is put at the service of Rosa's warm reciting going together with the cyclic aspect of the music. The melodic bass played by Demian and some surreal interruptions complete the piece "Marqués de Púbol", placed as a second side of the vinyl. The song provides a mesmerising power leading the listener to fall in its comfortable spiral of imaginative sensations. It is sung in Catalan language, a thing that helps to spread a very special appeal, painting the situation of the strange farewell between the painter and his muse. The track is also included in another version in "Abenteuerliches Herz" CD, without the female singer voice which is substituted by Gerhard's reciting. "Cançó de Somni" is the Catalan version of the Allerseelen's song "Traumlied". It can be said it is totally a new composition, and it can be referred also as a great piece. Rosa fills again with his sensuality a slow marching track full of nice details that help to create that atmosphere that only Allerseelen can provide. An indecipherable beauty achieved by the sonorous whole and by the electronic ritualism. A productive collaboration which would be great to have a continuation some time in the future. http://www.arrakis.es/

"The cover was the main temptation that brought me to buy this new single from Allerseelen. It contains, both on the front and on the back, a beautiful photo of an equally beautiful woman's face by the Austrian photographer Helmut Wolech, reminding me of sculptures of angels on graveyards in southern Europe. The single contains two great tracks. According to the sleeve, "these two surrealistic songs, a collaboration between the Austrian formation Allerseelen and the Catalan projects Circe and Dakshineswar, were recorded in spring 2001 in Catalonia". Singer Rosa Solé plays an important part on the songs, that were re-edited by the Catalan musician Demian (O Paradis), who also plays bass. This single is surrealistic both in sound and in subject matter, because 'Marques de Pubol' is a song about Salvador Dali and his muse Amanda Lear, who in 1985 published a book about the years she spent with the famous painter. The elegant music and the irrestible rhythym fit in perfectly with the mysterious, seductive female vocals of Rosa Solé. The lyrics are in Catalan, just as with the other song on the single, Canco de Somni. This song sounds rather familiar, which is not so strange, because it is based on an older Allerseelen song, 'Traumlied'. But it is not just a new version of this hypnotizing, dreamlike classic, but almost a new song. Again the female vocals add a lot to the atmosphere, and the music is very rich and more exotic than the original." www.funprox.com

Absolutely wonderful. Canco de somni strikes more as a second part to Traumlied rather than simply a catalan version of it. It retains that hypnotic, somnolent feel, but is really like a completely new work. The music has a powerful, magical quality which is enhanced by Rosa´s vocals. Brilliant. Marques de Pubol is another marvellous composition. The mesmeric mood that it evokes provides continuity with Canco de somni, and the two tracks complement each other perfectly. Despite the swirling experimentation and almost psychedelic haze that shrouds the song, it seems to possess a pop-like quality that makes it immediately accessible. Simultaneously grandiose, invigorating and inspirational. This release is a truly inspired collaboration full of feeling and atmosphere. The allerseelen sound is constantly progressing and expanding without losing those unique elements which make it what it is. deeply moving and thoroughly enjoyable. An amazing achievement. "Gerhard has outdone himself this time and he has chosen good company in which to strengthen his stronghold allerseelen. Aided by Rosa from Circe and Demian from O Paradis, Gerhard employs the vocal talents of the former and bass playing and arranging assistance of the later. This trio creates a record that is utterly spellbinding, both in its exotic and its erotic aire. Rosa’s voice is sultry and seductive. The motions of the sounds summon up a belly dancing sort of swaying. Still, after a dozen listens, I have this vision of a Spanish military encampment on the nights preceding an offensive. A drunken revelry. Men cavorting with the women provided for the evenings spirit boosting and physical stimulation. Swaying en sync to the hypnotic marches, their bodies relatively fixed, their minds traveling to paradise: fine libations, fine women, fine music. Canco de somni curiously starts like a Zero Kama song - a ceramic pot abraded with a, presumably, spanish military rhythm. When one hears this song, one understands the magick inherent in order and formation. This blend of sounds is truly mesmerizing. The flavors built into these two songs is enough to make one break out in a sweat. in the midst of Marques de Pubol i finally understand the meaning of Gerhard’s description of these songs as surreal. It instantly takes me to Hitchcock’s Dali passage. And seeing as this is the song inspired by the writings of dali’s muse, Amanda Lear, then this makes all the more sense. A very romantic pair of songs here with a bittersweet ending." www.unrestrainedmag.com

(Zinnober)

muy diferente. muy sexy. (maldoror)

Before reviewing the newest Allerseelen single, the latest jewel for the 7" collection of this legendary Austrian project, I did not want to loose the chance to make a deserved reference to the previous seven inches.

The more recent work by Allerseelen is two pieces released at the end of 2.002, again combining music with literature and painting. The lyrics to both songs and a text by Hermann Hesse occupy the back cover, while the photo of the cover is taken from a book called "Symbolismus" by Michael Gibson and it shows the painting "Engel mit Heiligenschein" by the English Louis Welden Hawkins. It is clear that again the music of Allerseelen is full of symbols and is open to interpretations. "Knistern" is an hypnotic titled revealed through constant percussion and repetitive enchanting melody. All is completed by pulsating bass and the reciting or whispering of the composer. By this definition you may easily deduct that Allerseelen follows the stylistic path of the more recent releases, specially that one of "Venezia", and it is true, though, as you can guess, this brings also new and eternal inspirations and sensations, portrayed by the ever changing essence of every song. The nearly erotic aspect of the melody within "Knistern" is accompanied also by a permanent piano. "Löwin" offers again warm atmospheres where piano and samplings have an important role when giving a place for the main voice to reveal lyrics of special love. These two new good songs are a previous step of what will be a new album titled "Ahnstern". Also, a split single by Allerseelen and Ô Paradis, "Sonne golthi-ade/El Astro Rey", is in preparation, as well as a very interesting compilation called "Wir rufen Deine Wölfe", containing compositions by bands such as Allerseelen, Belborn, Blood Axis, Bund Artam, Cawatana, Circe, Graumahd, Ô Paradis, Sangre Cavallum, Turbund Sturmwerk, Waldteufel and other groups. As all Allerseelen material and contributions, this "Knistern/Löwin" single is very recommended and essential to understand the eternal journey of the Austrian artist. F. this black vinyl 7" was released in september MMI. it contains two surrealistic songs featuring vocals by the catalan singer rosa solé (circe). canco de somni is a catalan version of the allerseelen song traumlied. marques de pubol is another song in catalan about salvador dali and his muse amanda lear who in 1985 published a book about the years she spent with the painter: my life with dali. note: the lyrics of these songs are catalan (català). they are not spanish (castellano).

a collaboration involving allerseelen, circe and dakshineswar, this 7" while having similar vibes in comparison to allerseelen´s most recent opus venezia, hold stark contrasts as well. entirely sung with female vocals, courtesy of rosa solé, her voice brings a light, airy feeling to the two tracks here. her vocals perfectly fit into the framework of canco de somni and marques de pubol, whose music is of similar artwork - delicate, warm, nearly embracing. light ambient music. canco de somni/marques de pubol is the product of allerseelen´s collaboration with the catalonian projects circe and dakshineswar and features soft and understated ambient folk with female vocals by rosa solé. there will also be another 7" with the catalan singer rosa solé. ein richtiges kleinod ist sie geworden. die inzwischen dritte allerseelen-single offenbart ein weiteres mal gewachsene musikalität und birgt vor allem im gesang überraschungen. dieser wird diesmal von der sängerin rosa solé der katalanischen band circe bestritten und klingt exotisch-traumhaft-schön. neben einer katalanischen version des bekannten traumlieds gibt es einen neuen interessanten song über die beziehung von amanda lear und salvador dali. unterstützung findet gerhard auch noch durch demian von der ebenfalls katalanischen gruppe dakshineswar und das ästhetisch ansprechende cover gestaltete helmut wolech, der ja für seine s/m- und fetish-fotos bekannt ist (black berichtete in nummer 22) und hier aber passenderweise andere wege geht! ancora corredato da una copertina magnifica, come per Allerseelen e abituale soprattutto per il formato 7" a cui spesso ricorre, il singolo pone in essere una probabilmente estemporanea collaborazione con i catalani circe e dakshineswar. ALLERSEELEN DoLP STURMLIEDER

ALLERSEELEN DoLP STURMLIEDER

DoLP with six exclusive new songs

CD sold out!

www.geocities.com/ahnstern

Gudrun Ordskidur:

"SOUNDTRACKS FOR VOLCANO LAKES AND BUNKER POETESSES"

"Sturmlieder (Storm Songs) is the latest DoLP on the Austrian label Ahnstern. I got it some days from the distributor Ajna in Oregon. As I consider all Allerseelen publications as some kind of travels, I will start the description of this magical mystery tour with the dark green cover showing a strange wooden sculpture surrounded by runes close to a hidden lake somewhere in the mountains. The lake looks very Austrian but the liner notes state that the photo was taken close to the volcano Mount St. Helens, obviously during the Pacific Westcoast tour of Allerseelen in 2003 with their live concerts in Seattle, Portland and San Francisco. Side I, which contains six brand-new songs, starts with WIR TRAGEN EIN LICHT, a powerful song with violent violins and a very beautiful, breath-taking melody which is dedicated to John Balance, the late singer of Coil. A strange requiem song without lyrics, almost too rhythmic for a funeral - but John Balance would probably have liked this for his last journey! In some way this song reminds of Eastern Europe, maybe of Poland where one of the last Coil concerts took place. Somewhere in the web I read that Allerseelen sometimes perform this song on stage with a human skull on stage. The next song VINO E CUORE has a completely different mood. It is almost a blues, some piano, some splinters of classic music, very slow and dark with the beautiful voice by an Italian girl named Gaya Donadio. Very sexy! Obviously a song about wine and love. A wonderful composition and a perfect soundtrack for a evening, relaxing at home with a good glass of Californian or Italian wine. It would be great to understand the words. But maybe it is better this way, as words that I do not understand allow more space for imagination. The next track is called ALLERSEELEN, like the band, almost a dancefloor song with guitars and ravens and violins. In some way these recordings appear in a similar vein like magnificent classics like Current 93´s Thunder Perfect Mind and Einsturzende Neubauten´s Zeichnungen des Patienten O.T. WACHOLDERWEG is powerful and again very rhythmic, so it is not surprising that Allerseelen, their friends and also their enemies consider this music as ammunition! Music as ammunition: This was also the title of a lengthy interview that Allerseelen gave to the American book Tyr II published last year by Ultra in Atlanta, Georgia. Already all the unreleased songs make the purchase of this double lp worthwile. HERBSTLIED, a song about the fall, again with violins and strange mandoline sounds. Some of the noises that Gerhard uses are familiar from the very early cassettes like Autdaruta and Schwartzer Rab which were also released on the Allerseelen DoLPs Heimliche Welt and Archaische Arbeiten by Ahnstern. So strange music, dark pop, sentimental, bitter, beautiful! It is easy to fall in love with this dark beauty, it is so seductive, with all its strange loops it has a very hypnotic quality. In some way it is sweet and bitter like medicine, poppy tea. It also reminds me in some way of Coil´s Horse Rotorvator and Psychic TV´s Dreams Less Sweet. LIEBE, the last one of the unreleased songs, even features some metal guitars, melted into one another with violins and industrial sounds. This song has again a strange Eastern Europe atmosphere. The other three sides of this lengthy DoLP contain the songs of the sold out Allerseelen Sturmlieder CD. Side II starts with HEILIGES BLUT - feedback noises, industrial noises, developing in a strange industrial rock song with a strong, almost brutal rhythm, a heavily distorted bass. Maybe many Allerseelen works are so hypnotic because they are constructed in a very simple and spartanic way. The voice of the singer was more aggressive in the past than it is now. The strong rhythm and the bass have a very energetic effect on the heart. It is really ammunition, it is like adrenaline or an acoustic amphetamine evolving from of the black vinyl. STORM starts with the noises of wind, then a bitter sweet violin enters the reign of the song. Again a very catchy rhythm and this time English, hard to understand lyrics by Andreas, another Austrian musician. The bass almost like an electric guitar, strange effects on the voice. The volcano lake on the cover fits well with the music on this album - the music is volcanic like magma inside an apparent dormant volcano, yet it contains at the same time the beauty and also hidden danger of the dark water of the lake - the violins at the end of the song, are they before or after the volcanic eruption!? TRAUMLIED - another very simple song with whispered voices, a strange slow motion rhythm with some piano and flutes, the right atmosphere for my Californian wine or also poppy tea. Having sold my Sturmlieder CD copy some years ago, I am glad to own these recordings again which were digitally remastered. This song fits well with the volcano lake, a hidden voice somewhere close to the water, close to the woods, whispering words about dreams. Side III starts more threatening with DUNKELGRAUE STILLE, reminding in its atmosphere of WWII, ashes, darkness, a menace somewhere. The wooden sculpture on the cover of the Sturmlieder double lp was burnt to ashes in October, 1944. What happened to it? I feel like waiting somewhere in a bunker or cellar for the end of the air-raids, for a utopy named peace.. It is bunker music. There is something strange about the throbbing rhythms of Allerseelen, either it is their speed or something else in the formula of this music! IN STAHLGEWITTERN: Very industrial storms of flames, of steel, again very catchy, no words, some noises reminding again of air planes, hypnotic and menacing. STURMLIED, storm song, the now well-known Allerseelen track based on lyrics by the German poetess Ricarda Huch who probably also spent a lot of time in a bunker or at least in a stormy and violent period of time, starts again with stormy noises and strange sounds that could be gongs or feedbacks treated with various electronic devices, at the same time brutal and beautiful as the theatre of cruelty by Antonin Artaud. An industrial rhythm and again a very simple bass, cruel and effective. This is the first Allerseelen song featuring Ostara, a girl singing in German, the former singer of Allerseelen who seems no longer to be a member of the band. The song ends very apocalyptic. A lot of the music of Allerseelen has a very apocalyptic quality. SEHNSUCHT, the first German word I learnt through the famous song by Einsturzende Neubauten, is basically just one loop, a very monotonous, hypnotic and seductive violin or cello, maybe recorded backwards. It is the final track on side III. Side IV starts with LEICHENFARBNE DÄMMERUNG - cruel feedbacks, distorted guitars, a solemn voice obviously being aware of some forthcoming apocalypse, flutes. A soundtrack for the showdown. But then the song gets another direction with a more serene rhythm. Some of the Allerseelen songs are really long which makes it easier to enter the underworld of their music. Some, like WINTERSONNENWENDE, might be too long. Wolves and a bass guitar, maybe some bone flutes and a sound between an organ and guitar feedback, some time later a very powerful beat on kettle-drums. HEIMAT, homeland, is more silent with its remote violins, the noise of rain, the thunderstorm, the sparse acoustic guitars.. Is the rain really on the vinyl!? Or do I hear in my bunker an actual thunderstorm from the outer world? Are the air-raids over? Is it the rain of spring in Nyja-Jorvik?

It would be great to see Allerseelen one day live at the coast of a volcano lake or even in Nyja-Jorvik. Maybe this dream will become true in the near future."

This is a page from the diary of the bunker poetess Gudrun Ordskvidur, Nyja-Jorvik, March 2nd, 2005, 9:53 p.m.

The songs and soundscapes on II, III, IV contain the songs which were published on the sold out Allerseelen CD Sturmlieder. They were recorded in the years 1994-1996. The new songs on I were recorded exclusively for this release in MMIV. All the songs were digitally remastered by M. Presch. Wir tragen ein Licht is dedicated to John Balance (16.II.1962-13.XI.2004). Vino e cuore was recorded in London and Wien in summer MMIV with the Italian singer Gaya Donadio. Allerseelen is based on a poem by Hermann von Gilm zu Rosenegg. The lyrics of Wacholderweg and Leichenfarbne Dämmerung were written by Friedrich Nietzsche. Liebe is inspired by a song from Laibach. The poem Sturmlied was written by Ricarda Huch.

The cover of this double lp contains photographs taken by Gerhard in June MMIII at the Pacific West Coast. It shows the mysterious June Lake close to the dormant volcano Mount St. Helens. The wooden Odin sculpture was constructed by the German architect and artist Bernhard Hoetger in the years 1929-1931. This sculpture was burnt to ashes on October 6th, 1944.

Sturmlieder is dedicated to the ashes of this wooden sculpture and the members of Ajna and Waldteufel who accompanied me during the magical mystery tour to this lake hidden between anthracite-grey lava rocks covered by golden moss.

Allerseelen DoLP Sturmlieder Reviews

Allerseelen CD Sturmlieder Reviews

CD sold out

With the lush minimalism of a Japanese garden, Allerseelen have created a chiaroscuro masterpiece. Songs like Sacred Blood, Desire and Deadly Pale Twilight are heartbreakingly beautiful. Kadmon´s lyric prowess shines through with breathtaking clarity on this, Allerseelen´s third album. The photography in the liner notes must be seen; the photos are of an Expressionist building in Bremen, called Haus Atlantis. The stark splendor of the photos reflect the music, and to include them was a stroke of genius. Kadmon has described Allerseelen´s music as „technosophical soundwork" and „psychoacoustic landscapes". I could not agree more. The majesty and the anguish of these Storm Songs is nearly exhausting. I simply cannot recommend this highly enough. (Outburn 5, USA)

The third CD of this Austrian industrial cult-band is just fantastic. Over one hour of „technosophical" industrial music, a mixture of archaic paganism and industrial avant-garde. This masterpiece opens with Heiliges Blut, which is a new version of Santa Sangre. Another re-recorded song is Sturmlied, the others are entirely new and they acknowledge the listener with Kadmon´s musical creativity and sense for experiment. They range between hard hypnotic songs and psychoacoustic soundscapes. Allerseelen is, undoubtedly, one of the most innovative industrial-bands of the nineties. (Gwydyon 1, Belgium)

The latest release from Austria´s industrial esotericists Allerseelen (All Souls). Haunting, hypnotic songs of melancholia and spiritual triumph. If the pre-Christian Germanic barbarians had access to samplers, this is the record they would have made. Beautiful expressionist packaging with German & English lyrics. (USA)

Sturmlieder is perfectly produced with the so typical strident Allerseelen sound. On the other hand the overall impression isn´t as destructive as the previous CD. Still the best band of this current. (The Noiseist, France)

Never has the industrial sound been so brutal and fantastic. In fact the neo-classical soundscapes which it occasionly gives way to are also among the best, relieving and stirring at the same time. Allerseelen was founded in 1989 by Austrian researcher Kadmon, who describes his music as technosophical: the fusion of technology with spirituality. Sturmlieder is both highly accomplished and arousingly raw, conservative avant-garde seeking to resolve and broaden the black and white materialism of the modern world. Violent, mechanical repetition churns beneath refined synthesized melodies and stylised noise. Pounding drums, howling wolves and cascading rains captivate - gently prying open the mind´s eye, while the distant snarls, whispers, spoken words and sweet songs document the emotion within these psychoacoustic landscapes. In that way, this is like soundtrack music - almost theatrical in structure. On reading the English lyrics in the CD insert, I was astounded by the similarity between the atmosphere each track´s lyrics conveyed, and the atmosphere which had effortlessly seeped into my imagination with each track, prior to reading the lyrics. This is highly expressive, exciting and recommended music.. Kadmon is also editor of a fascinating spiritual magazine, Aorta, which is closely connected to his music. Incidently, issue 13 is also called Sturmlieder (storm songs) and is about the magical war of English witches in August 1940. (Judas Kiss 3, Great Britain)

Sturmlieder (Storm Songs) is the latest work by Austrian industrial band Allerseelen, their third CD since the group was founded in 1989. Led by the artist and writer Kadmon, Allerseelen explores both pagan myth and the rootlessness of modernity; tradition and avant garde. These combinations have led Kadmon to describe their music as „Technosophical Soundwork", which unifies the ancient and technological into a powerful and rhythmic sonic whole. Accompanied by stunning photographs of a starkly eerie expressionist building built in 1929 in Bremen, Germany, Sturmlieder presents ten tracks ranging from pounding aggression to haunting and hypnotic dreamscapes. Distorted bass guitar, mantra-like male and female vocals, and a maelstrom of samples all collide to form the „Storm Songs" on this release. The poetic and often sorrowful lyrics are printed in both German and English. Sturmlieder is a perfect evolution from Allerseelen´s previous two releases, Cruor and Gotos=Kalanda, which have become underground classics in Europe and among dedicated listeners in America. And now, for the first time, Allerseelen has found a release through the small US label Storm, which is determined to bring this totally unique and visionary form of music to a wider audience. (Michael Moynihan)

There´s a strong philosophical background behind each Allerseelen release. Sturmlieder being a third full-length album again showcases Allerseelen merging modern industrial avantgardism with obscure archaic sounds. This time, though, Kadmon (the mastermind behind Allerseelen) opted for a little obvious parting of these two component parts. The first half of the album sets the rhythmically driven pace with minimalistic noise injections and actual singing coming closer to conventional songwriting yet in their own specific way. While another half of Sturmlieder mines darker and mystic realms based on psychoacoustic soundscapes, whispering voices and a huge hollow atmosphere which definitely suits me better. There´s no excuse to miss this album if you take your interest into highly developed and thought-out dark music. No tired cliches here but loads of new and stirring experiences. Uneasy listening too. (Wounded, Lithuania)

Kadmon, the driving force behind Allerseelen, has been producting music and publications especially relevant to Asatruars for quite a few years now. In his journal Aorta (and ist immediate successor, Ahnstern) he´s dealt with everything from Mithraism and English witchcraft to the Rumanian Iron Guard movement and the Norwegian Black Metal scene. In its own way, Allerseelen has always followed a path concurrent with these interests (or obsessions, as the case may be), and Sturmlieder is no exception. Allerseelen´s latest highlights Kadmon´s own talents as a poet and musician. Sturmlieder is undeniably his most mature achievement thus far. Juxtaposing gripping minimalist lyrics against „technosophical" rhythms and „psychoacoustic landscapes", it´s also his finest musically. Traumlied in particular might be the best thing Allerseelen have ever recorded - at the least, it marks a move towards more accessible, if no less mystifying, songwriting. Also of interest here is the packaging itself, which contains numerous rare photographs of Bernhard Hoetger´s Tree of Life, a massive Expressionist sculpture of Odin which was placed on the facade of the Haus Atlantis in 1930. But unlike that monolithic masterpiece, which fell to Allied bombing in 1945, one can only hope that the Europe celebrated in Allerseelen´s songs and texts might survive the more insidious maelstrom of technocratic and spiritual corruption. „That everything is now to be destroyed/And leaves and leaves and gold/Autumn is dissolving everything/And everything is doomed to death/In my homeland the lights are going out slowly/A no man´s land, only in dreams/Is it really too late?" Exemplary. (Vortru 57, USA)

(Sin is There 12, Deutschland)

Herman Wirth. (Marble Moon 9/10-1997, Italia) (marblemoon@tiscalinet.it)

(Jeune Resistance 7/97, France)

ALLERSEELEN DoLP HEIMLICHE WELT

ALLERSEELEN DoLP HEIMLICHE WELT

August MMIV

Last change: 13.3.2006

Klanglandschaften: Gerhard

Gestaltung: M. Presch/Gerhard

These ancient recordings of ritual chamber music were recorded in the magical year 1989 at Hallstatt, Oberösterreich. They were originally published on early Allerseelen cassettes. The recordings were digitally remastered by M. Presch close to the magical mountain Untersberg. Heimliche Welt means Hidden World.

This release contains photographs of the four castles of Lastours - Cabaret, Tour Régine, Surdespine, Quertinheux - in South France in the north of Carcassonne. The photographs were taken by Gerhard during a magical mystery tour in February MMII. Lastours is a symbol for the death of the Cathars and the culture of Occitania that was almost destroyed in a cruel crusade.

Heimliche Welt is dedicated to all the beautiful and powerful sounds that have been and always will be my comrades. A thank you also to my first instruments - cassette recorders, kettle-drums, violin, the old Yamaha VSS-200. The quotations are taken from the book Elisabeth von Österreich. Die Tagebuchblätter by Constantin Christomanos.

Gerhard

(7) Paolo Bertoni (Blow Up 80, Italia)

ALLERSEELEN DoLP ARCHAISCHE ARBEITEN

ALLERSEELEN DoLP ARCHAISCHE ARBEITEN

Allerseelen and Ahnstern published in MMIV the fold out double lp Archaische Arbeiten (1989) in a limited edition of 600. This release contains a selection of ancient recordings by Allerseelen which were published in 1989 on various Allerseelen cassettes. All the recordings are digitally remastered. The cover artwork shows powerful warrior menhirs of Corsica, photographed by Gerhard on a magical mystery tour in 1998.

Archaische Arbeiten is dedicated to all the people who were already in 1989 fascinated by the early recordings of Allerseelen. Some of them are still close friends and comrades. The quotations are taken from the novel Die Auferstehung des Maltravers of Alexander Lernet-Holenia.

"Jedem Anfang wohnt ein Zauber inne." (Hermann Hesse, Das Glasperlenspiel)

(Paolo Bertoni - Blow Up, Italia)

The quotations are taken from the novel Die Auferstehung des Maltravers of Alexander Lernet-Holenia:
